回复 :马修饰演报社的新闻版主编，莱蒙是他手下的王牌记者。这一天莱蒙正要离开芝加哥到纽约去跟他的女友展开新生活，但临时发生了一宗政治丑闻，马修用尽各种方法来挽留莱蒙采访这段新闻。整个情节就在两人的拉扯之间来表现报界中人对突发新闻的停不了的热爱心理，由此延伸了互相勾心斗角、你躲我寻的游戏。
回复 :格洛夫是50年代的踢踏舞“皇帝”。80年代他退出了舞台，在歌舞团当了艺术指导。歌舞团的青工阿尔卡基十分喜爱舞蹈，他想向别格洛夫学习，但别格夫对他没什么信心。阿尔卡基没有灰心，他暗地里下功夫学习。一个偶然的机会，别格洛夫看到了电视台播放自己多年前表演的影片，可节目主持人却称这位出色的艺术家已经辞世了，别格洛夫马上向电视台说明了实情。通过这件事，歌舞团的导演对踢踏舞产生了浓厚兴趣。他请别格洛夫把这种舞蹈编成节目。别格洛夫在选演员时又想到了阿尔卡基，可就在这时，他的心脏病突然发作。弥留之际，别格洛夫回忆起从前他与五岁的女儿同台演出的一段舞蹈。
