罗弦（刘晓庆 饰）是教授的女儿，春暖在体院学习期间，春暖爱上足球运动员陈志平（张国民 饰），门第观念很深的罗仲文（项堃 饰）夫妇看不起出身卑微的陈志平，而要把女儿嫁给老友何方德（张平 饰）之子何侃（陈少泽 饰）。陈父（周森冠 饰）和陈母（孙玉珍饰）则强迫儿子娶一普通女工为妻，性格软弱的陈志平不敢违命。性格倔犟的罗弦不屈父母意愿，草率地与船厂工人郭汾（米铁增 饰）结婚，后郭汾因公殉职，罗弦忍痛与女儿相依为命。何侃同情罗弦的遭遇，下决心要与罗弦结合，却遭到父母的强烈反对。已铁了心的何侃抛弃世俗观念，义无反顾地去找罗弦......
