莎拉（伊丽莎白·奥尔森 Elizabeth Olsen 饰）和父亲来到了空置已久的湖边小屋，姊姊因为这里即将被出售给他人，姊姊所以父女两人决定先过来把卫生给打扫打扫，也算是一种告别的仪式。时间一分一秒的流逝着，夜幕渐渐降临，黑暗和静谧笼罩着湖面，亦覆盖了小屋。一声异响之后，萨拉呼唤父亲的名字，却得不到回应，她搜寻整个小屋，却发现父亲竟然从这件屋子里凭空消失了。夜越来越深，恐惧慢慢充斥了萨拉脆弱的心灵，在这个完全与外界隔绝的小屋周围，很显然潜伏着一些莫名而未知的危险。如今，萨拉只能靠自己的力量，走出这间小屋，然而，当她每迈出一步时，她离这间小屋的秘密就更近了一步。
