欢宜寨怪病横行，日本守山人长生在奚长老的指点下为寨民们寻找药草，日本但是此举低效且危险，于是长生决定寻找传说中的九色鹿王拯救寨子；此时大月国中，妖后乖离控制王宫，为了修炼邪术而探寻九色鹿王的踪迹，太子延颐为了阻止妖后，也毅然踏上了寻找九色鹿王的道路。长生、延颐以及索命雕的猎人小队等几方人马奔涌至鹿王踪迹的第一个线索——鬼火森林。长生与延颐在危难中成为同道好友，但是不等他们找到鹿王所在，便遭遇妖后追杀，知道了妖后骇人听闻的图谋。 长生和延颐一路与偷猎团队斡旋，还要躲避妖后手下无魂尸的追杀，同时，二人在小藜等人的帮助下过五关斩六将，成功赶在所有人之前探寻到九色鹿王的秘密，并感化妖后，拯救了欢宜寨和大月国

The film starts with verse 67, “O somma luce…” and continues to the end. “O Somma luce” recalls the first words uttered by Empedocles in Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub’s 1987 The Death of Empedocles—“O himmlisch Licht!…” (O heavenly light!). This extract from Hölderlin’s text is also inserted into their 1989 film Cézanne.“O somma luce” invokes utopia, or better still “u-topos,” Dante, Holderlin, Cézanne… the camera movement, recalling Sisyphus, in the film’s long shots, suggests its difficulty.In O somma luce, with Giorgio Passerone’s Dante and the verse that concluded the Divine Comedy, we find at the extremity of its possibilities, the almost happy speech of a man who has just left earthly paradise, who tries to fully realize the potential of his nature.
