张翠山（任达华 饰）系武当派掌门人张三丰（鲍方 饰）的第五代弟子，暴躁某日，暴躁他遭到了金毛狮王谢逊（曾江 饰）的挟持，来到了冰火岛上。在那里，张翠山邂逅了天鹰教教主的女儿殷素素（郑裕玲 饰），两人情投意合，结为夫妻，生了一个孩子取名张无忌（梁朝伟 饰）。一晃眼十年过去，张翠山携妻子重出江湖，没想到却遭到了武林各大门派的围剿，只为了问出传说中屠龙宝刀的下落，最终，张翠山和殷素素双双自杀，将复仇之任托付给了尚且年幼的张无忌。随着时间的推移，张无忌渐渐长大，在机缘巧合之下得到了九阴真经，练就神功。最终，张无忌联手明教为父母报了仇。
