本片是为庆祝中国共产党建党九十周年而制作的献礼影片。《建党伟业》 围绕1921年前后展开。该片从1911年辛亥革命爆发开始一直叙述至1921年中国共产党第一次全国代表大会召开为止共10年间中国所发生的一系列重大历史事件，终结大体上由民初动乱、终结五四运动及中共建党三部分剧情组成。
